Dear Brethren and Friends of Mt. Zion,

On January 16, 2003, Bro. L. R. Shelton, Jr., went home to be with the Lord Jesus Christ. His faithful wife Loraine and his beloved daughter Sharon were at his side when he departed this life. By the great mercies of our God, pneumonia gently ushered him out of his years of painful suffering. His passing was quiet and peaceful. He lost consciousness sometime Thursday morning and never regained it, slipping into eternity shortly after 8:00 PM.

All of us here at Mt. Zion/Chapel Library will sorely miss our beloved brother. He was a loving husband and father; a faithful preacher of God’s grace; and a kind, humble, Christian man. We loved him dearly, and our memories of him are precious. It was a delight to fellowship with him, a blessing to serve with him, and a privilege to pray with him. He rested each and every day on the promises of God and always extolled the faithfulness of God.

He faithfully served the Lord for twenty-three years at Mt. Zion and our fervent prayer is that the Lord Jesus will continue the great work here. Our beloved brother wanted to see the Gospel of Jesus Christ extend to the ends of the earth, and his burning desire was to give away as much good literature as he could. He did not ask for money, but made his needs known to the Lord; he never sent out promotions, and he would not sell Chapel Library/Mt. Zion’s mailing list to anyone. It is our fervent desire to continue in the same path. Our hope, trust, and provision are all in Christ Jesus, the Lord of Glory.

Please pray for the Shelton family in this time of joy and sorrow. And remember us at Mt. Zion as we continue the Lord’s work that He began with his blessed servant, L.R. Shelton, Jr.

On behalf of all of us at Mt. Zion,

Steven Frakes
